Dotcom Photo Studio Client Spotlight: Art of Play
Dale Carnegie once said that “when dealing with people, remember you are not dealing with creatures of logic, but creatures of emotion.” Companies use product photography to emotionally connect with customers while explaining the benefits of their product. Such is the case for Californian company Art of Play. The company was started by two magician brothers in 2013. At their launch, Dan and Dave had a catalogue of 50 magic card decks, some designed
in-house while others were curated from all over the world. As the company grew, the magicians decided to focus on selling unique toys, card decks, and high end puzzles.
Quality puzzles stimulate the mind, and in order for them to resonate with their customers, Dan and Dave knew that the photo of each puzzle had to be clear and of catalogue quality.
“It’s so important to see the details in the texture,” said Dan. He continued to explain that when seeing a photo of an Art of Play product, the customer should want to pick up and touch it right away.
When meeting with The Art of Play staff, they explained the challenges they experienced while photographing their products internally. This inspired the founders to understand that they needed help in order to keep their photography consistent.
“Dotcom Photo Studio has given us a very professional, high-end, consistent look for our catalogue and I love scrolling through it. Our products [are] better depicted than the ones selling on the MoMa store, a retailer we have always looked up to,” added Dan.
Quality photography drives business and emotional connection because it creates the lifestyle and atmosphere customers want to be a part of. The customer not only wants the product in the photo, but to be in the photo with the product.
When you have a consumer lifestyle brand such as Art of Play, it’s always important to invest in and prioritize creating the most impactful visual experience for your customers.
